Cincinnati Animal CARE is at critical capacity after taking in 112 dogs in a week

Foster manager Meg Jordan said, "We are definitely at critical capacity and in desperate need," and some dogs are living in pop-up crates. Seized dogs can't be adopted until their legal status is resolved, so more than one-third of the week's dogs are on investigation holds. On Tuesday, 14 large, shepherd-type dogs came from one property, and 10 more came from another on Wednesday.

The shelter's largest seizure in its history came in August. The Hamilton County Dog Warden has also responded to other high-volume cases in the last three months.

  • Probable cause hearing: deputy wardens must file within 10 days of a seizure
  • Bond: may be required to cover the cost of care

The Wrap

October felt like a summer encore, and the numbers back it up. The National Weather Service says Greater Cincinnati's October averaged 62.1 degrees, the warmest since 1947. The peak came on Oct. 13, when the high hit 89 degrees. Good thing we got that last bit of summer in.
